Prayers for Preston

DSC00352 DSC00365 DSC00301

Baby Preston was born on my sister Elizabeth's birthday, July 30th. He's been Emma's room mate the past few days and he and his Mommy and Daddy need your prayers. Preston was born with a rare heart defect which leaves his family with the difficult decision of either a very high risk surgery to give him a single-ventricle heart or to have a heart transplant. He's an adorable little guy and his parents are strong Christians asking for prayer on his and their behalf (actually, his dad asked for 14,000 prayers because he heard that's how many hits there were on the day of Emma's surgery-- so... let's give him exactly that!! Double and triple up for this little guy!!). And I kind of feel bad coming home with a healthy little girl because I badly want to stay here and walk through this with them, support them, and 'hold their hand' as they fight for their little one. They are such strong people though and I know that they don't need me... they are doing so well with gathering information about the different options, talking through things, thinking in reality scenarios, and... most of all... relying on God to give them a clear direction and understanding of His plan for their child.

Preston has two big brothers as well, ages 4 and 7, who are home with grandparents while Mom and Dad stay by Preston's bedside and pray him better. Please pray for Julia, Chris, and Baby Preston! They will make a carepage soon and I'll link to it as soon as I get it.

p.s. Preston's parents have the link to come read your comments :)

  17. Julia and Chris,
One of my son's middle name is Preston and I have a friend who just adopted a baby and named him Preston, so this will be easy for me to remember! I have already prayed for wisdom and discernment for you as you have a very difficult decision to make. I pray that God gives you complete peace in your decision, and clarity. God can certainly make the answer perfectly clear. I pray that God would sustain Preston's heart until it can be fixed. He is precious!

  26. Hi

I have read your story and blog with great interest. We adopted from the same orphanage way back in 2002.

Two of the other kids with Down that I saw in 2006 have died in an institution after their transfer.

I don't like it when people say that our daughter is lucky to have us....but nevertheless I hope you appreciate the sentiment when I refer to you and your family!

    Take care
    Lynn

  43. I found your site through a friend and my heart goes out to Preston's family. Our fourth child was also born with a rare heart defect and has had 2 of the 3 surgeries for a single ventricle. Tell them to trust their insticts and the doctors and God will take care of the rest. Also, take things one day at a time...the details will work out. Be sure to include your older children as much as possible they need you just as much as Preston. We will also have you in our prayers.

  68. Hi Chris and Julie... this is your cousin in Jacksonville, Allison. After hearing mixed information I finally decided to call Duane a few days ago. He was able to return my call last night and update me on Preston's journey. I know there are many praying and he's come a long way this weekend and so thankful to God for protecting him through this... I emailed bunches of people asking them to pray for all of you as well! I hope you feel the presence of God and the love being poured out in prayer for this little guy and you all as well. They are also praying for your older boys and the family caring for them. Please let me know if there is anything I can do! Love, Allison.

  69. Hi Chris and Julie. GOD is awesome.I know you are blessed by your faith in a powerful God. He has wraped his arms around you and little Preston. I am praising God for the progress to date. Blessings come down as the prayers go up and certainly we testify of that. God must have a very special purpose for Preston's life. I love you. Cousin Sherron Jacksonville
