Emma and I went to St. Pete last night, slept at the RMH, then did pre-op this morning. All went well. They did chest x-rays, bloodwork, EKG, and a tour of the CVICU and of course lots of paperwork... Now we're home for the weekend.
Here's the details for Monday:
Mike and I will drive over Sunday night and stay at the RMH again. We have to be at the hospital at 5:15 Monday morning.
Surgery is supposed to be at 7 and a 'typical AV repair' is 4 hours. We were told that Dr. Q is "quick" but.. then she realized the PH and said it could be significantly longer too... so we're guessing at 3-5 hrs.
They're putting in either a PICC or a Mid Line because she's so hard to get an IV into. That will save some extra sticks down the recovery road they hope.
The two BIGGIES for Emma are coming off the bypass machine- that's what the nurse that did the cath said she'll never do and why we shouldn't have it repaired- and coming off the vent.
I'm going nuts the next 2 days, one friend is coming north and another is coming south and we're getting together all day tomorrow (which was planned a while ago!). Sunday my church will be praying over Emma so though we normally wouldn't go to that big of a gathering the day before surgery... we will. Then we leave for St. Pete around 4.
Meredith: Our church is praying for Emma as well... We will be thinking of you and your family through the surgery. -Love, Becca

Braska and I just did our night-night prayers including prayer for Emma, the family, and the medical personnel. We'll keep it up.
ReplyDeleteAnd 4 hours for "typical AV"?? Braska was in surgery from 7:45 am to almost 5pm. Makes me want to go back and ask what was up. They told us it was smooth and "as planned." Hmmmmmm. I hope for the 4-hour version for you!!
Prayers from New Zealand too, really all over the world!
