- Anyone know anything about Wellsphere? I generally ignore these e-mails, but they had enough information that they had to have actually gotten from my blog on multiple posts that it seems more legit than most... I haven't yet visited the website and my first instinct is to delete the e-mail invitation and move on, but I thought I'd ask here whether anyone knows whether it's 'real' or not.
- We're about to build a bed for Emma... She is 6 and though she's in a crib and technically still fits, she is getting a bit bit for it and we'd like her to have a 'big bed'. That said... she can get out of the playpen (and FLOP on the floor) and the crib with the siderail down. She has no idea of safety so a mattress on the floor isn't a good idea because she very quickly would be under Brianna's bed or pulling out dresser drawers and who knows what else. So we've decided to ask my dad to build a bed for her that's a twin size but will be able to be 'hers' for many years to come. It needs to have 4 sides that are each 42" or higher (above the mattress) so that she doesn't outgrow it anytime soon. One side needs to be able to be 'moved' and get most of the way out of the way to change the sheets. We don't want 'solid' walls on it because we don't want it to be like a cage or get hot. After looking around online I found 4 basic designs that are all pretty much homemade that are sold for $3-6k each. YIKES! My parents, Mike, and I have together come up with an idea of what we're going to see about having Dad build... but I thought I'd throw this out there in case anyone has suggestions that are a LOT less than the beds that I've found thus far...

Mer, I'd be happy to send you the designs Mark did for our boys' and girls' beds, and you could see if you could modify the sides as needed. Ours are a little taller than normal beds so we could fit rubbermaid tubs underneath, but you could shorten the legs if you wanted her closer to the ground. Let me know and I can get them to you after Ukraine. :) :)

The beds cost around $9000 each normally, I think! Also, sleepsafe gives away 4 beds a year if you enter the contest on the site. Good luck figuring out the perfect bed for miss Emma!
Medicaid is paying for a SleepSafer bed for our son. It was ordered in Nov. and should arrive this summer. We wanted to bed with two levels for when he learns to pull up. This will be something he can have into adulthood.
ReplyDeleteIf you post a question on downsyn, someone there has THE COOLEST bed! It's fully enclosed except for one end, and other parts have plexiglass. So really, it looks like a big kids "fort" type of bed, and not like a giant crib.
ReplyDeleteI have talked to the guy at Wellsphere, and I'm going to be joining in there. Shannon(Gabi) and Tara Marie (Emma Sage) are already involved. They basically just repost your blog posts to their sites so people can find them when they search for DS info. I actually created another blog for them to link to since I have alot of posts that I figure they don't have interest in. I copied my DS related posts to the new one. That help any??

One of the children I work with has this bed,I think it is what Leah may have been talking about. At first I thought the bed looked so intimidating, but it is not so much. Although, the boy that uses it can stand and walk, he does not when he is in bed because my concern was him pulling and pushing on the sides and it falling over.
