The culprit!

Day 1 at home Aleksa undressed two baby dolls.  Day 2 she undressed 5.  Repeatedly.

I have a thing about naked baby dolls... I just don't like them :)

We did some redirection, redressed dolls, put them away for a while, reintroduced them with their clothes on and said "no" while pulling on the clothes, then YES when pulling them back on.

It worked.

Until today.

When Lynae started undressing baby dolls...

  1. I only have boys so I am not an expert at dolls, but aren't girls supposed to dress and undress dolls, change their outfits, etc.?? Or is the problem with leaving them undressed?? Then I see your point!! Maybe the girls will get the hang of redressing them!! Good luck!!

  2. Oh, good luck....my house is FULL of naked dolls. I can't stand seeing them all undressed, drives me crazy. I'm okay with them undressing them, but they are all old enough to redress them too. So, I'm right there with ya on this one. Wish I had some great solution for you, but all I have is, well...a house full of naked dolls!

  6. We had a regular nudist colony of dolls with our daughters. I think it's the norm!

Maybe you should just take off all the clothes and put them away until the girls decide that the dolls are cold! At least, that way you wouldn't have to pick up doll clothes all over!

  7. Huh. Why on earth are 'naked' baby dolls a problem? It's a toy. Frankly, I would think it great work for her physically to increase dexterity...not to mention completely normal for any child!

  8. I only have boys so there wasn't many dolls in our house. Maybe a few left over from my childhood- I'm curious as to why it is a problem that they are naked? Why not gather the dolls every few days and dress them- but the rest of the time let them play however they want. Now if they take the heads or limbs off I would step in!

  9. I played with dolls my whole childhood...even to the age of "sneaking" playing "house" so my friends wouldn't find out...hah. Now I'm curious if I went through a stage where mine didn't have clothes on. Having a house full of 6 boys there is one doll in the toybox. My boys never take the clothes off it but the doll hardly gets touched either. But whenever there are little visiting girls here I ALWAYS have to put the clothes back on when they leave. Go figure.

  10. Meredith, would you mind when you have a minute explaing about some of the "strict boundaries" you had for Alexsa right from the start, and how you implemented those? Or if you don't want to do it publicly, would you drop me a line? I expect we are going to have some definite CHALLENGING behavoirs with our little gal. ;0-) And I want to learn what your tips are. THANKS!

  11. Ha! That is funny. I have a friend with 7 kids and what drove her crazy was naked barbies. She came up with the brilliant idea to sew on little underwear(kinda like long johns, but they were short.) They could never be taken off, thus they were never again naked. Until I am sure someone figured out you could cut them off. ;) Anyway, I am sure you have lots of spare time to whip up permanent underwear for baby dolls. :)

  12. I think, developmentally speaking, kids need to learn coordination and to use their fingers- the undressing of dolls prepares them for undressing, and dressing, themselves eventually. And, given Ds kids potential low muscle tone etc, this actually may be a good 'exercise'. However, I get the naked doll issue, tho I don't share that particular thing. Try something else. A tennis ball container covered up with a lot of layers of tube socks, etc.dressed on going in from alternating the top and then the bottom. Show her the fun of pulling those off- make a special basket where the undressed socks can go into. It'll be awhile before she can re-dress something like that, but it might be fun for her to strip the socks off. Esp. if they are different colors on the layers! Or, get cloth dolls of different colors. Their bareness may not bother you as much!

  13. I only buy dolls that have the clothes ATTACHED, as in SEWN to the body! LOL Dolls are a pain in the neck to re-dress, and my kids got plenty of practice "dressing" themselves, they didn't need a doll to practice on. Dressing a doll is nothing like dressing a person, except for the fasteners. Funny...my kids (except for Angela) still learned to do buttons and snaps without having a doll to practice with.
