So... anyone want to help us out in the name arena (once again!)?
We don't want a name that starts with the same first letter as our other kids, if we can help it... we use initials for a LOT of things and that just makes life easier with 6 kids :)
That means E,K,B,M, and L are out of the running :)
And we want it to be something that he will be able to pronounce or approximate so that it is UNDERSTOOD even if he ends up having somewhat significant speech difficulties. We don't have a good grasp on his speech ability since he is so young but it is definitely delayed so we want to consider that when naming him.
We have a list going... but I'd love to hear input!
All that info is for a first name... we also need a middle (possibly keeping his middle name, not sure) but it doesn't have to follow the 'rules' with pronunciation or first letter...
When we have a name, I *think* I can share it publicly since it's not actually got anything to do with him personally :)
Hudson has ALWAYS been a personal favorite of ours.

I'll be back, I'm name obsessed and have nothing to name right now!
Oh I do LOVE the name game!
ReplyDeleteHhhhmmm, no E, K, B, M, or L?
What about:
1. Cale [I have one of those :)]
2. Gage
3. Nathan [Nate]
4. Quinn
5. Zane
Boys are so much harder. :)
My favorite is David. I work at a University and just saw a listing for a student with the same name as my son ... David Roy. Love it!
ReplyDeleteI don't know what sounds are difficult for a child to pronounce. One child had trouble pronouncing K sounds. He converted them to D. (Card became Dard) A speech therapist could advise you what sounds tend to be easiest.
I'm excited for you!
Seth - number one choice!!

Okay so I am an Old Testament name lover!!
Good speechie names...i like your thinking.
ReplyDeleteNate is a great suggestion. (n/t both front sounds)
Zane and Fin both have affricates (sounds that require lots of air and make your lips tingle) but all front sounds
Good first letter options P, O, although lip weakness may make these harder
T, D still front sounds but don't require lips
I would stay away from k/g/l/r as well as /a/ like ate, 'o' like goose and good, these are backish sounds normally harder.
Good Luck!
I like Jon, Sam, or Nick.

Jake... it doesn't rhyme with anything else so even with speech problems it should be easily understood by most.
ReplyDeleteCody! Hayden! Thomas!! Jacob! True!
ReplyDeleteDavid and Joshua are my favorites!

What about Jackson? And Jack for short. Shouldn't be that hard to pronounce hopefully. Plus it's super cute :).

Wes has no trouble saying Casey. :) Maybe that could be in the running. And it's not terribly far off his original, right?

I like Noah as a name and think it would be easy to say and cute. Mom

ReplyDeleteI love that name, but my husband wouldn't let me name any of our kids it :(
I see quite a few Nates in there, and I have to agree. It's a strong name, biblical, and easily pronounced. Besides, as a teacher I've never known a Nate that I didn't want to take home with me!
ReplyDeleteTanner! Oops, that one is taken, but if you want to use, I wouldn't mind! :) I do agree with many other commenters...Noah IS a nice name! Can't wait to see what you choose.
ReplyDeleteI like Cody, Jonah, and Tanner
ReplyDeleteNoah, Jonah, Sam, Jude, Charlie, Cale, Isaac
ReplyDeleteThose have my vote! And then of course, there's Optimus Prime. I know Kristopher's with me on that one :)

We just named our new infant son (with DS) Noah specifically for the same reason. We wanted a name he would be able to pronounce easily and that others would understand when he said it. We adopted him at 9-1/2 weeks old (3 weeks ago) so he can't pronounce it yet. But, my little buddy at church has DS and his name is Jonah. He always pronounces his own name as "Nonah". I knew Noah would be something he could say. I even had him say it for me a few times and it was very clear, so we knew it was a keeper. Plus, "Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord". :o)
