Kidnapped or Saved?

I just read an article which shows the viewpoints of two teenagers after being adopted (years earlier) from Eastern Europe.  The insight is RIGHT ON, from everything I've read and heard in the past, from the acquisition of language, to the feelings of worthlessness.  No doubt, despite our children's special needs and institutional delays as well as developmental delays, our children still thought/think much like these two typically developing girls did.

A little bit of mercy goes a very long way.  A good reminder of why it's so important for us to be patient with our children, though often times it's that very patience that is the HARDEST thing to find!

I hope you'll take the time to read this, especially if you know someone that was adopted internationally.

  1. Great article, however my dear friend adopted from Unkraine, a 2 year old, 12 years ago. This family is suffering tragedy and heartache over the damage done to this poor child in two short years of being in an orphanage. He has diagnosed Reactive Attachment Disorder, and fortunately is only acting out sexually and with thievery, etc. and not going at them with knives, etc, as many others do. No one seems to be knowledgable enough to do much help. They have seen numerous therapists and don't have any more money to spend on them. It's tearing the family apart, and I pray for them constantly. Unfortunately, they can't wait for him to be 18 and out of the house. So sad!! Glad these families have had a better outcome.
