I've gone back and forth on this one... and the time has come again to decide...
The annual "Family Cafe" is held in Orlando in June and we've attended 2 of the last 3 years. It's a great time for resources, networking, and getting out among the community of people with disabilities... and something we really look forward to doing each time.
The last 2 years I've considered applying to be a presenter at it. After all, Reece's Rainbow is an organization and a calling that I'm definitely not passive about sharing! But the first year we were involved in medical things with Emma and didn't even attend. Last year I just didn't do it. Now I just received the form in y inbox again... but do I fill it out??
So tell me... if you were at a disabilities conference that is for people with disabilities, families that have children with disabilities, and professionals in the realm of disabilities... would you want to attend a session about special needs adoption?? I probably should specify International... since I know very little about domestic.
I have no problem speaking or presenting. I actually enjoy it and especially when it's something I'm passionate about- like my kids, adoption, or God stuff in general :) I just don't know that I want to apply to present then realize it's not exactly a topic that people would want to hear about.
Ok, so re-reading that it sounds like I would feel rejected if I was speaking to a near-empty room LOL. And that's not the case! So maybe I'll just apply and let the Family Cafe folks determine whether they want it presented at the conference? Hmm...
APPLY! You don't need a FULL room to save another kiddo. You just need ONE person. The RIGHT person. Just start praying God leads the right person/people to be there to listen to you speak!
ReplyDeleteI'd go!
APPLY!
I think you should apply and let God decide if this is where He wants you to present. Even if you end up with an empty room, maybe someone needs to see it listed on the brochure to get some adoption thoughts jumpstarted. :)
ReplyDeleteYes, apply. I think it would be a great opportunity to do some good.
ReplyDeleteAPPLY!!!

Apply. Like someone else said, if just one person heard about or reads about it, and that one person feels the pull to adopt, then that is one kid getting a home. Then, that person shares his/ her esxpereince and that toughes another person, and the cycle continues!!
ReplyDeleteOk, so I should proof-read before I hit send. That should read at the end "experience and that touches"
ReplyDeleteSorry about that ;)
Go for it!
ReplyDeleteGO FOR IT!!
ReplyDeleteI think offering a new subject may bring people to the meeting that hadn't planned on coming before. Even if you speak to just one family's heart - haven't you accomplished your goal? I say go for it!
